Trina nominated for ‘Best Female Hip Hop Artist’ at 2012 BET Awards

dabaddestbitch:

Trina has been nominated alongside Diamond, Nicki Minaj, and Brianna Perry for ‘Best Female Hip Hop Artist’ at this year’s BET Awards. A turn-around from her inability to qualify for last year - an event which caused quite a controversy as a result of angered fans and comments from Trina herself. This is Trina’s 8th BET Awards nomination in the same category.

Iggy Azalea Responds to Eve: ‘I don’t care if you think it’s real or not because it’s what I love’

Last week, Eve spoke out to The Women in Hip Hop to discuss her thoughts on current female emcees, in which she stated:

“I’m not really into the Iggy Azalea chick. I can’t really fuck with her music, but her look is crazy. I just can’t believe it.”

In a recent interview with XXL Magazine, Iggy shared her thoughts on Eve’s comments.

“I like Eve,” she said. “Everybody is different, everybody hasn’t lived out of the box and for you to even know if it’s real, you have to kind of be an out-the-box person or somebody who likes something they’re not suppose to [like]. A girl like her that raps is expected, so, how could you understand something so different?

“I’m not mad at [Eve] for not understanding it. How could you if you’ve never been ostracized or loved something you weren’t suppose to love? Everything you’ve loved you’re allowed to love, so, how could you understand me? Thus, how could you know if it’s real? I used to be like, ‘It is real, let me prove it to you. Now, I don’t care if you think it’s real or not because it’s what I love, it’s my life. I don’t put my story all out there for you because I don’t need to put my story out there and prove it. I don’t give a fuck if you think I am or not ’cause that girl in the crowd understand it and that’s who it’s for, if you don’t then it’s not for you.”

Female Rapper Karryl ‘Special One’ Smith Laid to Rest

News One is reporting that Karryl “Special One” Smith was laid to rest over the weekend. Smith was half of the female hip-hop group Conscious Daughters, who debuted in 1993 with their Ear to the Street LP. The LP reached the Billboard Top 25 R&B/Hip-Hop charts. The Conscious Daughters’ Facebook page states that Ear to the Street sold more than 400,000 copies and yielded a cross-country tour.

With three singles and three videos from that project, the Conscious Daughters gained national recognition. Smith and Green were protégées of politically conscious rapper Paris.

Adisa Banjoko of News One writes:

Special One and her rap partner Carla Green aka CMG’s single Fonky Expedition inspired young women coast to coast to pick up mics and represent for the ladies in rap. They also gained critical acclaim with the album Gamers (1996) and Nutcracker Suite (2009). Conscious Daughters were in the process of recording their fourth album at the time of Smith’s passing.

Initially, when Smith’s passing was reported, the cause of death was unknown. On the group’s Facebook page, it states that Special One died of complications resulting from a blood clot. Smith’s memorial service was held at First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Oakland, Calif. Many of her closest friends and family spoke openly about Special One’s commitment to others, her loyalty, her ability to make people laugh and her skill as an MC.

All Hip-Hop.com reported that hip-hop historian Dave “Davey D” Cook expressed his condolences via Twitter Sunday. “To those of us who knew Special One and to her family and her partner CMG who found her in her apt … Hugs, prayers & support,” Cook wrote.

RIP to a rap pioneer.

Foxy Brown Disses Lil’ Kim … Again

In the battle of Brooklyn rap diva supremacy, rap vixens Lil’ Kim and Foxy Brown have been in verbal clashes several times over the course of their respective careers. With new rap queen Nicki Minaj getting most of the attention in the arena of female rappers, Foxy and Kim have both been quietly rebooting their careers – but not without a few choice words exchanged between them. Foxy has once again launched a salvo in the direction of Lil’ Kim recently.

Foxy Brown reignited her feud with the Queen Bee during a recent set in New Jersey as Fox Boogie rocked verses from her “Christmas Massacre” track over fellow Brooklynite Jay-Z and his DJ Premier produced banger “So Ghetto” – with Brown going in for the kill the line, “First the bi—h you wanna hate on Foxy/Ten year later, now you hate Minaj”. The bars were clearly weighing in on the Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Kim clash of late.

This isn’t the first time Foxy Brown has chimed in on the beef between her rap peers telling MTV News last year, “When you’re a boss bi—h, you give it up. Send her a Chanel bag or something. If you’re winning, you’re winning. That’s just how I see it” – again, addressing the focused verbal attacks of Kim towards Nicki. Without pointing any fingers, all three of the MCs have made mention of each other at various intervals throughout.

How will this jab towards Lil’ Kim play out for Foxy Brown? Stayed tuned for this one.
